Planning Her Birthday

Therapist: Okay, let's see... I'll be out of town next week for my son's wedding, and the following week I'll be out for my summer vacation.. The next time I can see you is June 13th. How does that work for you?

Me: That should be okay. We can see how I do without seeing you for so long. Plus, I'm sure I'll need to see you that week because it will be A's birthday.

Therapist: Oh, yeah? Well, that's good. I'll tell you what, while you're away why don't you think about planning something to do with either NYEBoy or your friends to keep you busy that day.

Me: That sounds like a good idea.

And so it began. As soon as I left that appointment, I walked to where my friend T was sitting and explained how she wouldn't be back in the office until A's birthday week and how she told me to plan something to keep me busy. "I want to plan a birthday party for A. Will you be there?" She replied, "Of course I will. And, if you need me to stay with you the whole day, I'll do that too."

A's birthday is on a Thursday, June 16th. I'll have classes that day, so we likely won't do the party until the next day, Friday the 17th. I was thinking we could all go to dinner, have cupcakes, and then go bowling.

We went bowling last year for A's birthday and I am sure we would have done the same thing this year. She loves bowling. And cupcakes. And all of us.

I'll be mailing her a package that week. I hope she gets the presents and enjoys them. I'd do anything to be with her or hear her voice on her birthday.
