Any comments on this story?
Am I the only one, or did her comment about people trying over and over again "for their own" rub the wrong way? Although I am sorry about their loss, and congratulate the arrival of Miley, but for the average folk, it's not as simple as 'just adopting'.
I'm just say'n.

There are other reasons for not choosing adoption. I would love to adopt, but Hubby and I do not have the time, energy, patience, and the money to do it. At least not right now. And I hate the comment, "Why don't you just adopt?" There is no "just" adopting. It takes a lot of time and energy, and it is not the right road for us.
Here from ICLW. I think that the money issue is a big one for a lot of people, especially if they are choosing adoption after undergoing expensive fertility treatments.
Considering they already have 5 of "their own" I think their perspective is probably a little different than those who can't have any of "their own" when it comes to adoption. Also, they are millionaires and they probably didn't consider the money factor as much as others do when adopting cause they are used to having lots of money. "just" adopting is easier for those with money and time.
Still, good for them for choosing to adopt after they couldn't have anymore of "their own"
I agree with smartypants, if I already had one of my own,the choice to adopt would be a no brainer for me. It just isn't so easy to give up on not only the experience of being pregnant, giving birth, but of also being able to bring a life into this world that is a continuation of myself and my husband.
(over from ICLW-good debate)
Yea, she rubbed me the wrong way. Like others have said, adoption isn't that easy. There's so much time and money involved, with very few guarantees.
the "Just...." anything phrase always puts me over the edge...it's so demeaning to whatever someone else thinks.

I know what you mean. We can't adopt because my dh is too old and he has health problems. I hate it when people over simplify things.
I hadn't seen the story--thanks for the link. I wasn't offended b/c adoption is the right choice for my family, but can see how it could be. I agree w/ Jess-- the qualifier, "Just.." is so demeaning. I feel the same way when people say, " why didn't you just try that in vitro stuff first..."
That all said, they are an amazing family and Miley looks like a doll!
