Show & Tell - Childhood Candy Favorites

Thursday was my grandma's birthday. Although I forgot about it until I was walking out the door of work that afternoon, I still managed to call my aunt, mom, and brother to suprise her with dinner at 6:45. I even stopped for cake and balloons on the way. Thankfully, she never knew any of us forgot. Heh.

During dinner my aunt and mom were talking about their favorite childhood candies. They both agreed their favorite candy that they can't find any more would be tr!llionare's. Apparently it was a braid of caramel covered with chocolate. I have spent a lot of time looking online, I can't even find a picture of it, but I did find their sibling, the m!llionaire, which is still sold by the company.

As for my favorite candies growing up, you can still pretty much find everything we ate. With a little help from the goog you can even find fun dip, jumbo jaw breakers, razzles, whistle pops, sixlets, wax lips, and others alike.

So, in honor of the kick off of NaComLeaveMo, don't be shy. Tell me what your favorite candies from your childhood were.

hmmm - there is a childhood chocolate toffee that just doesn't seem to exist any more - I can't even think what it is called, but my Pops always used to have some in his pockets!

Wax lips for sure!

Also, Zotz. Love my Zotz.

I loved candy cigarettes. They felt so risque because my mom hated them, so I had to sneak them. That's about the extent of my childhood rebellion. ;-)

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog!! I look forward to getting to know you better.

My favorite candy (well, gum actually) was Big League Chew (preferably grape flavored). I used to see how much I could stuff in my mouth at once!

love the fun dips -- what;s not to love about colored sugar as a kid?! also loved almost anything with chocolate and crunch.

thanks for your comment too!

Oohh...Razzles and Whistle Pops for sure. I also loved Pop Rocks and any little round candies that came in boxes: Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans, Johnny Apple Treats, Grapeheads, etc. We always tucked the flap inside and used the box for whistles, which needless to say drove my mom nuts.

I love it--a comment prompt! You make it too easy for us. :)

My favorites were things like Lemonheads, M&Ms and Skittles, because I valued quantity over quality. Somehow I thought I got more if it was in tiny pieces.

Thanks for kick-starting my sweet-tooth :)

I loved (and still do) shocktarts and starbursts. I even participated in one of those mall market research things when I was 5. It was to decide what to call the candy that became my beloved shocktarts. Ahhh, good times.

Hi, First of all: thank you for your comment on my blog. It is nice to "meet" you and you MUST try an avocado. Don't be afraid...they are delish! Second of all...remember the rings that were lollipops? and the big, giant gem was the candy party? YUMMY! Loved those.

I'm ancient and living on a distant continent the other side of the Pacific so you're unlikely to recognise my childhood favourites.

Number one choice was a chocolate frog called Freddo that came with a strawberry or pineapple cream centre. Closely followed by the amazing Whizz-Fizz - a glassine bag of sherbet powder with a Disney character's face on the front and a teeny tiny plastic spoon to scoop it up with.

Thanks for commenting on my blog! And for making the awesome banner - I had always meant to do something like that but wasn't sure if it would be too emotional to see them every day. I'm still not sure... But I am touched by the gesture and will save it for the future if you don't mind :)

Candy:

Me: Gummi Coke Bottles. YUM.

DH: Chick-O-Stix and Laffy Taffy. In that order. Apparently the Laffy Taffy cleans the Chick-O-Stix out of your teeth for you?

And for both of us the best candy bar was Whatchamacallits.

I love sixlets!! Somehow, they are so much better than M&M's.

I have always really liked Toffifay and Bit 'O Honey, too.

Who am I kidding? I'll eat anything with high fructose corn syrup in it!

So I'm a few days late but I just had to add my two cents... how can nobody have listed BOTTLE CAPS? 7-11 still carries them and I still buy them... although now they come in a big roll rather than the little paper envelope.
